DAVID TENNANT IS COMING BACK!!
DAVID TENNANT IS COMING BACK!!
But most annoyingly its not Dr. Who!!
Last night I finished my long day with a relaxing and beautiful performance of Hamlet by the RSC. Of course I love my Shakespeare, but I really was excited to see David Tennant as Prince Hamlet. This is probably as close as I am ever going to get to seeing a performance by such talented individuals, being able to appreciate the level of skill and the magnitude of their dramatic training. First, I will say that I do feel that for the most part actors from the UK show superior acting skills at time from those in the US, but I think that is because most of the talent in the UK actually get formally trained in the arts. Across the pond people appreciate the theatre and even on television you can see the difference in the way they portray a character. I think that here in the US, back in the old days (some are around now) there were some fine, fine actors and actresses that brought the lines on a page to life. Now a days, it comes down to who is famous for being hot and can attract movie goers. If you look at recent films (Avengers, Batman, Superman) and TV shows (Revenge, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead) many of the leads are from the UK!!
Ok back to Hamlet. It was beautiful. David Tennant was amazing in his portrayal of the manic Prince that was going out of his mind after seeing the ghost of his slain father. Sir Patrick Stewart was also equally and brilliant playing the usurper to the throne. All of the players in this production were incredible and although it is lengthy, I did not at any point in time feel bored or lost while watching. The production was a modern take on this age old literary classic which would be a great choice to show students in high school if they had to study Shakespearean literature. It was interesting to see the juxtaposition of the old language with the modern clothes and mannerisms of the actors.

David Tennant= brilliant. I had read and heard of his theatre background and I feel lucky to be able to see that, even if it is on TV. I can’t begin to imagine what it must be like watching it on the stage! He completely drew me in to the character and just watching his perform left me awestruck. He feels every word and every movement, translating it to the viewer. He was just amazing and of course just GORGEOUS! Once he goes “mad” the hair is very reminiscent of the 10th Doctor and he just looks perfect. I was definitely fan-girling through out and there is just something magical about a man that can speak in that Shakespearean tongue (David Tennant’s Hamlet Soliliquy) .
Even if you are NOT a fan of Shakespeare I highly recommend that you watch this adaptation. The actors do an amazing job and you completely get sucked into the production. If anything you get plenty of David Tennant screen time as Prince Hamlet!!!
